March 25, 2021: CVESD Virtual Academy Information

Mustang Families,

You should have received this e-mail today from CVESD. Please ensure you read the FAQ page as this program is new and developing. The application period is from May 25 – 31, 2021.

Dear Parent/Guardian:

We are looking forward to bringing all of our staff members and students back for traditional in-person instruction for the 2021-22 school year, and we are also aware of parent interest in their children continuing in an online instructional model, similar to distance learning. A few weeks ago, a survey was sent to collect interest on this instructional model and many parents/guardians indicated they would like to explore this option.

The Chula Vista Elementary School District is excited to launch the CVESD Virtual Academy for the new 2021-22 school year for students in grades K-6. The CVESD Virtual Academy will provide students in Chula Vista with an independent study option as an alternative instructional strategy to meet and enhance their individual student strengths, needs, and learning styles.

The CVESD Virtual Academy is a voluntary program and parents/guardians must apply for enrollment during the application window. Applications to the CVESD Virtual Academy must be submitted online from May 25 through May 31 at 5 p.m. For a detailed Parent Overview on the Virtual Academy as well as Frequently Asked Questions, please visit the CVESD website by clicking here

Click here to apply to the CVESD Virtual Academy. The application period is from May 25 – 31.

May 25, 2021: COVID-19 Testing on Wednesday, May 26, 2021

Mustang Families,

On Wednesday, May 26, 2021, we will have COVID-19 testing on our school site.  You will not need to make an appointment for testing at our school sites, you can walk in at any time between 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. CVESD schools will provide on-demand testing, which means that we are accepting “walk-ins”—no appointments are necessary. Here is important information on the CVESD COVID-19 Testing Program:

  • If you have not registered/provided consent for your child through the link that was sent several weeks ago, please visit the testing staff on-site at our school and they will be able to help register and test your child during your visit or call the district office at (619) 425-9600 and speak to Sherry Stone at ext. 1327 or Theresa Fletcher at ext. 1027.
  • If your student is experiencing symptoms, we highly recommend getting a PCR test at a ffree County facility  or with a medical provider, and not reporting to the school for the antigen test. Unfortunately, the antigen tests used by CVESD cannot be used for return to work or school, per the County’s Symptom Decision Tree. The antigen testing program is for surveillance purposes, in order to quickly determine if individuals are positive and remove such individuals and their close contacts from campus as soon as possible. Contact our school health office for more information or discuss your child’s symptoms.
  • At this time, we can only test staff and CVESD students. No family members are able to test at this time.
  • Because we are not taking appointments, we know there will be long lines before and after school. Please take this into account when planning the time to have your child tested.   Please be patient with the testing team and listen carefully to their instructions.
  • Testing will take place on the exterior wall of the office conference room.

Thank you for supporting our efforts to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus on our campus.

Here is a quick two-minute video to learn more about the productive struggle. Mustangs must be challenged by their thinking.
