  • December 20, 2021-January 7, 2022: Winter Break
  • January 11, 2021: Students Return- Minimum Day

Report Cards: Report cards are coming out soon. Make sure to connect with the teacher of record for ways that you can support your child and their academic, behavior, and social/emotional growth.

Follow the directions of our Safety Patrol leaders: Concerns, please contact the front office. Refrain from speaking to the patrollers while they are on duty.

Hours: Review the school hours below. The gate by 705 will close at 8:45 a.m. Ensure that your children are on time. Students that are late will need to enter campus via the front office gate. All students that enter after 8:45 a.m. will receive a tardy slip. See the hours below.

FREE Breakfast: 8:15 a.m. – 8:45 a.m. (No student drop-off before 8:15 a.m.)

Solar Construction: We have solar construction on campus daily.

Campus Arrival: Mustang Families, please help us stay safe by ensuring the following:

–> Refrain from turning left on MacKenzie Creek and Rocking Horse. The no-left turn is a city of Chula Vista traffic sign. Families that enter on MacKenzie creek when the gate is closed and drive against traffic are causing a safety hazard for children and families. We ask that families follow the safety guidelines.

–> Exit out of one lane on MacKenzie Creek. Yelling at arguing with other Mustang families is not the Mustang way. Please have patience and flexibility. Safety Patrol will be coming very soon.

–> Park in visitor parking only.

— > Blocking cars while waiting is not safe. Please park in the surrounding community.

ELAC Representative: We are looking for families to help support our ELAC. If you are interested, please contact Mrs. Alma Zamani at Alma.Zamani@cvesd.org. We need our Mustang families to join us to support our students.

Has your child earned an award or achievement in the community? We want to know. Please let us know if your child has earned an award or achievement in the community. We love to celebrate our Mustangs in front of the whole community. Our Mustangs need to know that we are excited and support their community achievements. For example, Marshall Mustang earned first place in the Eastlake swim match on September 6, 2021. Please call the front office and leave the information with Liz or Christine. Dr. Loyce will highlight the Mustang student at the morning Rally.

CVESD Mask Requirements: The Chula Vista Elementary School District will mandate properly positioned and correctly fitted masks to be worn at all campuses, including District offices, at all times, regardless of vaccination status. Masks must be worn if anyone is around, students or staff, vaccinated or not. This includes parents/guardians who may be walking their students onto campus. Students may remove their masks only to play at recess and to eat, both of which should happen outdoors, weather permitting. Masks are required in hallways while traveling to and from the playground and lunch area.

Campus Safety: Students cannot arrive on campus before 8:15 a.m. unless they are in the YMCA program. Students must be picked up daily by their parent or guardian Students who remain after school must be signed in at an assigned approved program, D.A.S.H. or the YMCA Child Care. TMES does not provide after-school supervision for students who are waiting for parents or siblings.  Students are not allowed to remain after school and play on the playground or campus unsupervised.

Bus Loop Safety: The bus loop is only for school busses only. We have families driving in the bus loop during the day and looking into the playground, blocking busses, or dropping students off in the loop. We want to make sure everyone is safe. When individuals drive their vehicles in the bus look and look at staff and students, this action is causing concern to our students and staff as they are worried people are unsafe. Any questions or concerns regarding recess, please contact the classroom teacher. Questions, please contact the office.

Arrival and Departure Reminders:

  • For children who line up on the blacktop, parents enter/exit through the blacktop gate.  Please exit as soon as morning announcements are finished or by 8:50 a.m.  Do not escort your child to class because we lock gates at 8:45 when school starts.
  • The gate by the front office is open from 8:15-8:45 a.m.  This gate is intended for late student arrivals starting at 8:45 so parents must exit out of the blacktop gate to avoid the crowding at this gate.  Students arriving after 8:45 need to come into the office to get a late slip and will be let onto campus through the locked gate by someone in the office.  Parents will be allowed to enter campus with their students.
  • For children who arrive at Zone 1 (TK, Kinder, SDC students) please remember to pick up from this gate.  Parents will be asked to remain outside of the gate after your student is picked up until 3:15 when all the gates will be opened.  Do not come onto campus and wait for student dismissal.
  • Remember, no dogs are allowed on campus at any time.

Together we can have a smooth transition to the beginning and end of the school day for all students!  Thank you.

Important Reminders for TMES: We Need Your Help!!!

Important Reminders for TMES: We Need Your Help!!!

Greetings TMES Families,

Please read the important reminders below.

Gates: Parents are expected to leave campus immediately following dropping off or picking up their child. 705 is the only gate that families can exit out of in the morning. Families are required to exit when the 8:45 a.m. bell rings (Start time). Students that arrive after 8:45 a.m. at any gate are late and will be directed by staff to enter the campus via the front office gate and obtain a tardy slip. Due to students coming in the front office gate, families can not exit out of the front gate.

All persons walking on campus after the dismissal bell to pick up students are expected to wait in the following zones for student pick-up.

Zone 1: Wait outside of the kinder gate behind the blue line.

Zone 1-500: Wait behind the 500 building gate.

Zone 2: Wait behind the blue line in front of the school administration building.

Zone 3: Wait behind the gate.

Gates will open at 3:00 p.m. for kinder and 3:15 for grades 1-6. No visitors are allowed on campus to wait next to a classroom to pick up their children. All students will exit the campus at the bell. Students will walk to their designated departure zone for their expected pick-up. Parents of kinder students waiting are asked to help keep the volume of their conversations to a minimum as students in grades 1-6 are still learning. Grades 1-6 dismiss at 3:15 M-Th and 1:45 on Friday. All staff will remind visitors to exit if they are on campus prior to the bell. Questions, please contact the front office.

Masks: The Chula Vista Elementary School District mandates properly positioned and correctly fitted masks to be worn at all campuses, including District offices, at all times, regardless of vaccination status. Masks must be worn if anyone is around, students or staff, vaccinated or not. This includes parents/guardians who may be walking their students onto campus. Masks are required on CVESD property including the sidewalks where other children or families are present.

Parking: Visitor parking is available in the community and across from the mural area in the first six spots or unmarked stalls within the parking lot. Please refrain from parking in reserved/numbered spots, as they are reserved for staff. Families can not leave their cars unattended for drop-off or arrival at any zone and/or park in red or yellow marked curbs. Please help us follow the safety guidelines. Questions, please contact the front office.

COVID (Health and Safety): Protecting the health, safety, and well-being of our school community remains our top priority. CVESD has implemented updated COVID-19 safety protocols in alignment with California Department of Public Health mitigation strategies to keep our students and staff safe while on campus. It is our hope that through proactive safety measures and clear communication we can keep our classrooms open and students participating in in-person instruction daily. It will take a collaborative effort between home and school to minimize the risk of exposure to COVID-19 on our campuses and ensure a successful school year.

Help us prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our school community by screening your child before school each day. We ask your family to conduct health screenings for their child(ren) before leaving for school each morning. This could include checking your child’s temperature, assessing for symptoms consistent with COVID-19, and asking your child “do you feel well today?” Please do not send your child to school medicated with symptoms or with COVID related symptoms. If you have any questions on if you should send your child to school, contact the front office. Below, you will find a list of symptoms:

Fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and/or diarrhea.

Also, do not send your student to school if they have been identified as a close contact or have had possible exposure to a COVID-19 case and are awaiting COVID-19 test results. We want to keep staff and students safe and we need your help.

Staff members will monitor student health throughout the day and temperature checks will be conducted if a child appears to not feel well or develops symptoms while at school. Chula Vista Elementary School District requires any student or staff exhibiting a fever or any of the COVID-19 symptoms to be immediately sent home. TMES COVID-19- Non Close Contact Community Notification

Courtesy Notice of COVID-19 Positive Case at Thurgood Marshall Elementary School

The District learned an individual at school tested positive for the virus that causes COVID-19. This individual is currently in isolation. Due to privacy laws, information regarding this individual’s identity cannot be released. Please respect this individual’s privacy. This is a courtesy notice: If you have not already been notified that you/your child is a close contact, at this time, you/your child are NOT considered a close contact with the person who tested positive for the virus.

Although we know that public health also receives notification of COVID-19 positive tests through other means, we contact the Public Health Unit of the San Diego Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) and provide pertinent information to their office. We worked with the school administration to determine if there are any individuals considered to be a “close contact” the day(s) (s)he was on campus. This process is called “contact tracing.” “Close contact” is defined as an individual:
1) Within 6 feet of a COVID-19 patient for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24- hour period; or
2) Had unprotected contact with the body fluids and/or secretions (including, but not limited to, being coughed on or sneezed on, sharing utensils, or drinking out of the same container) of a COVID-19 Patient.

HHSA may also conduct their own contact tracing investigation, based on their own protocols. If you have not heard and do not hear from our local public health department, you/your child are not considered a “close contact” through their investigation and there is nothing more for you to do at this time.

We have notified any close contacts. If any individual is on campus during their communicable period, to ensure everyone’s safety, staff at the site will clean and disinfect the areas of exposure, per CDC guidelines, using only Environmental Protection Agency-approved cleaning solutions.

Important reminder: This is a courtesy notice and we hope it will encourage you to stay safe by wearing a face covering, and checking daily for symptoms. Any individual who is experiencing symptoms, should not report to school. What are considered COVID-19 symptoms?

A person has one or more symptoms associated with COVID-19: Possible symptoms include fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty
breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and/or diarrhea. Please do not send your child to school medicated with symptoms. For questions, contact the front office at (619) 656-6252.

Please contact the school immediately if you (staff member) or your child tests positive for COVID-19.

Chula Vista Elementary School District is offering free testing at the following locations:

Important Reminders/Information:

Important Dates:

  • Q2: 10/5/2021-12/17/2021
  • November 11, 2021: Veterans Day
  • November 22, 2021-November 26, 2021: Thanksgiving Break
  • December 20, 2021-January 7, 2022: Winter Break
  • January 11, 2021: Students Return- Minimum Day

Mask Update: The Chula Vista Elementary School District will mandate properly positioned and correctly fitted masks to be worn at all campuses, including District offices, at all times, regardless of vaccination status. Adults may only remove masks when actively eating or drinking.

Thank you.

FREE COVID-19 TESTING: Get a PCR/NAAT or Antigen test at a free County facility, at a medical provider, or our District Office (Education Services and Support Center), located at 84 East J Street, Chula Vista. The district office site hours are from M-TH 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. and on Fridays from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Currently, we can only test STAFF and CVESD STUDENTS. No family members can test, at this time. In addition to the ESSC, the County of San Diego has opened a COVID-19 testing center that is also free, and with longer hours that include Saturday testing opportunities. For Spanish-language, make sure to select that option in the drop-down menu. Here is the County info:

Is your child sick? Please call the office and notify our staff of any illness-related concerns. If your child is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and/or gets sent home, we cannot accept the Antigen test for their return to campus. PCR/NAAT tests are needed for anyone who is symptomatic—or who is asymptomatic (doesn’t have symptoms) yet tested positive with an Antigen test.  As always, please contact our school office staff if your child will be absent from school for any reason,

Please note, for students physically at school, parents/guardians must speak with school office staff regarding the reason for any student absence from class.
