COVID (Health and Safety): Help us prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our school community by screening your child before school each day. We ask your family to conduct health screenings for their child(ren) before leaving for school each morning. This could include checking your child’s temperature, assessing for symptoms consistent with COVID-19, and asking your child “do you feel well today?” Please do not send your child to school medicated with symptoms or with COVID-related symptoms. If you have any questions on if you should send your child to school, contact the front office. Below, you will find a list of symptoms:

Fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, the new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and/or diarrhea.

Also, do not send your student to school if they have been identified as exposed to a COVID-19 case in your home or the community and are awaiting COVID-19 test results. We want to keep staff and students safe and we need your help.

Staff members will monitor student health throughout the day and temperature checks will be conducted if a child appears to not feel well or develops symptoms while at school. Chula Vista Elementary School District requires any student or staff exhibiting a fever or any of the COVID-19 symptoms to be immediately sent home. To review the SDCOE Decision tree, click https://covid-19.sdcoe.net/Portals/covid-19/Documents/Health%20Practices/COVID-19-Decision-Tree.pdf?updated=072721

Follow the directions of our Safety Patrol leaders: Concerns, please contact the front office. Refrain from speaking to the patrollers while they are on duty.

Hours: Review the school hours below. The gate by 705 will close at 8:45 a.m. Ensure that your children are on time. Students that are late will need to enter campus via the front office gate. All students that enter after 8:45 a.m. will receive a tardy slip. See the hours below.

FREE Breakfast: 8:15 a.m. – 8:45 a.m. (No student drop-off before 8:15 a.m.)

Campus Arrival: Mustang Families, please help us stay safe by ensuring the following:

–> Refrain from turning left on MacKenzie Creek and Rocking Horse. The no-left turn is a city of Chula Vista traffic sign. Families that enter on MacKenzie creek when the gate is closed and drive against traffic are causing a safety hazard for children and families. We ask that families follow the safety guidelines.

–> Exit out of one lane on MacKenzie Creek. Yelling at arguing with other Mustang families is not the Mustang way. Please have patience and flexibility. Safety Patrol will be coming very soon.

–> Park in visitor parking only.

— > Blocking cars while waiting is not safe. Please park in the surrounding community.

ELAC Representative: We are looking for families to help support our ELAC. If you are interested, please contact Mrs. Alma Zamani at Alma.Zamani@cvesd.org. We need our Mustang families to join us to support our students.

Has your child earned an award or achievement in the community? We want to know. Please let us know if your child has earned an award or achievement in the community. We love to celebrate our Mustangs in front of the whole community. Our Mustangs need to know that we are excited and support their community achievements. For example, Marshall Mustang earned first place in the Eastlake swim match on September 6, 2021. Please call the front office and leave the information with Liz or Christine. Dr. Loyce will highlight the Mustang student at the morning Rally.

Campus Safety: Students cannot arrive on campus before 8:15 a.m. unless they are in the YMCA program. Students must be picked up daily by their parent or guardian Students who remain after school must be signed in at an assigned approved program, D.A.S.H. or the YMCA Child Care. TMES does not provide after-school supervision for students who are waiting for parents or siblings.  Students are not allowed to remain after school and play on the playground or campus unsupervised.

Bus Loop Safety: The bus loop is only for school buses only. We have families driving in the bus loop during the day and looking into the playground, blocking buses, or dropping students off in the loop. We want to make sure everyone is safe. When individuals drive their vehicles in the bus look and look at staff and students, this action is causing concern to our students and staff as they are worried people are unsafe. Any questions or concerns regarding recess, please contact the classroom teacher. Questions, please contact the office.

Arrival and Departure Reminders:

  • For children who line up on the blacktop, parents enter/exit through the blacktop gate.  Please exit as soon as morning announcements are finished or by 8:50 a.m.  Do not escort your child to class because we lock gates at 8:45 when school starts.
  • The gate by the front office is open from 8:15-8:45 a.m.  This gate is intended for late student arrivals starting at 8:45 so parents must exit out of the blacktop gate to avoid the crowding at this gate.  Students arriving after 8:45 need to come into the office to get a late slip and will be let onto campus through the locked gate by someone in the office.  Parents will be allowed to enter campus with their students.
  • For children who arrive at Zone 1 (TK, Kinder, SDC students) please remember to pick up from this gate.  Parents will be asked to remain outside of the gate after your student is picked up until 3:15 when all the gates will be opened.  Do not come onto campus and wait for student dismissal.
  • Remember, no dogs are allowed on campus at any time.

Together we can have a smooth transition to the beginning and end of the school day for all students!  Thank you.

Amazon Smile: Did you know that there is an easy way to donate to our school? We encourage all families to donate while they shop on Amazon. To learn more about Amazon Smile, click here. Select Thurgood Marshall PTC.

Attendance:  All parents are expected to contact the office on the day of the child’s absence at: (619) 656-6252 ext. 550110, 24 hours a day, or email: Christine.Garcia@cvesd.org
